Groovie Ghoulies
I already vented about them with the infamous Looney Tunes crossover so I will not dwell too long on the monsters this time around. The ghouls of the Saturday morning cartoon series originally started off as recurring characters on Filmation's "Sabrina the Teenage Witch". At some point, however, ABC (the network that aired the show) and the cartoon studio decided to spin off the characters with their own show. As you can guess very quickly it's as dated and bad as any cartoon could be from that point in the early 1970's. It has terrible jokes, very lame one-liners, and the stories go absolutely nowhere.
The studio tried to steal from rival Hanna-Barbera series "Scooby Doo" by having then contemporary songs written into their stories, but this comes out as being shoehorned in addition to dragging the episodes down even further. Lastly, their attempts to give the classic Universal horror monsters a “hip and groovy” makeover are awful. I would love to see all those monsters together under one roof, but alas this is not the show for them. It is a shame though because God knows there can be an animated series that treats these iconic monsters as actual characters instead of lame one note creatures.
