Trick or Treat

Whenever Halloween came around the corner I knew it was time to bring out the Halloween themed videos from the attic and begin watching through them. The videos contained classic cartoons or movies and specials taped from the television or from the local video rental store. Among my favorite shorts while growing up over the years was the Disney cartoon “Trick or Treat” (1952). It is one of my favorite Donald Duck cartoons from the canon because it was soo funny as well as entertaining to watch. I loved how Donald was such a complete jack-ass to his nephews and the means Witch Hazel goes to own him. The song of the same name continued to buzz through my memory whenever this cartoon came to my mind. The iconic actress June Forway of Rocky the Flying Squirrel fame provided the voice of Witch Hazel, Donald’s antagonist and the nephews’ heroine for the storyline. Her acting of the character was so good that two years following the release of the cartoon Chuck Jones decided to invent his own "Hazel" for his films. He admitted to having been inspired by the character from the film in creating the Looney Tunes variation of the character. So had it not been for the Disney version then we would not have gotten the Warner Brother interpretation in the first place.
