New Tales From The Cryptkeeper

"Too Cool For School"

Two obnoxious and dimwitted hipster girls from the Glades get themselves into trouble because they believe it is “cool” to break the rules. A mean old sister does not want to share her play things with her little sister because she simply does not "care" enough to share. A person gets bullied by a bunch of thugs to the point of...REVENGE! What ever should we do (sob)!?!? Does all of this not sound like a very lame after-school special? Well, that was the case for the entire third season of the animated series “New Tales from the Cryptkeeper” on CBS.

The series had been around for two years on the FOX networks as a more kid friendly version of the HBO show, “Tales from the Crypt”. But in the cartoon's final year it moved to CBS where the network tossed aside the comic book art direction from the first two seasons for a very bland and boring aesthetic to make the show appear "less scary" for viewers. You can even see the difference in the opening credits between the old and new animation graphics. CBS also wanted to show to be very educational in compliance with the content rules of the FCC. As a result of the ridiculous regulations the show became nothing more than a series of idiotic morality tales claiming to be "educational" when in actuality these type of shows are only giving education a bad rap to the public. We all want to learn something about life, but do people actually learn by being inanely spoon fed crap like this? I don't think so, but the foolish folks over at the FCC seem to think so anyway. I guess that’s why there are no longer any entertaining or truly educational cartoons on network television these days. If you really want to learn something head over to PBS or look at some of the great cartoons of yesteryear and today. You will find nothing worthwhile from this Cryptkeeper that's for sure.
